Inclusion Saskatchewan
Sixty years ago, Inclusion SK founder Dr. John Dolan put an ad in the StarPhoenix to survey the number of children who were unable to attend school because they had an intellectual disability.
The response to his ad inspired him, and many others invested in the disability cause, to start an Association that would give a voice to individuals with intellectual disabilities in Saskatchewan.
Over the following decades, the Association grew in both size and reputation. Its scope widened to cover a gamut of initiatives ranging from crisis support and public education, to systemic work with the Saskatchewan Government and retreats/workshops for mothers, parents, and siblings of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Today, Inclusion Saskatchewan directly supports more than 2,900 individuals and families throughout the province, and impacts thousands more through its work on the Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disabilities program and Self-Directed Funding. It works on a wide array of initiatives, projects, and priorities that include: advocacy, employment support, education and transition support, public education, youth programming, self-advocacy and social activities, family network and workshops, and the Valley View Centre transition.

OUTSaskatoon
OUTSaskatoon’s guiding principles are the lens through which we view all our work, the teachings we use to shape our belief systems as an organization, and the foundation of why and how we do our work.
We believe that in order to achieve the world we want for our communities that we must rely on harm reduction, equity, cultural teachings, and community.
OUTSaskatoon opened Pride Home in January 2017 in order to provide a place for 2SLGBTQ youth to live open and free lives. Pride Home is a place where gender and sexually diverse youth are celebrated and supported and where they have the support and services that they need to thrive.
Two Spirit, transgender, and queer youth are at a greater risk of homelessness compared to their cisgender, heterosexual peers. A recent street-based needs assessment in Toronto identified that 24% of youth respondents identified as 2SLGBTQ, and local surveys showed that 30% of youth in OUTSaskatoon’s youth program had been homeless or without secure housing at some point in their lives.
OUTSaskatoon started the year long project titled: A Place to Belong: Building Capacity for 2SLGBTQ Housing. This project took inspiration from the success of Pride Home in bettering the lives the youth who lived there. Using Pride Home as the model and needs assessments from local housing organizations and other 2SLGBTQ organizations across Canada, project staff created a 2SLGBTQ housing blueprint.
