Volunteer for Point In Time Count

Our volunteer list is growing, but we still need a few more passionate individuals to support the 2025 Point-in-Time Count.

Saskatoon’s 2025 Point-in-Time (PiT) Count is being led in collaboration by the City of Saskatoon and Saskatoon Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP). The 2025 PiT Count is a nationally coordinated event that will look to better understand the extent of homelessness in Saskatoon on a given night.

Things will look a little different this year as the focus will be on enumerating (“counting”) rather than completing a full survey.

We are looking for volunteers to assist with the Count.

To volunteer please complete the registration form by September 26, 2025.

PiT Count Date:

October 16, 2025, from 11:00am to 11:00pm

Volunteer Details:

Volunteers will help enumerate individuals experiencing homelessness on the street, in encampments and at service locations using core screening questions. Volunteer shifts will be three hours in length, but volunteers may sign up for multiple shifts if desired.

If you are unable to stand or walk for a three-hour shift, please indicate this on your registration form. Alternative options and accommodations can be arranged as needed.

Volunteers will work in teams of three and will be assigned an experienced team lead.

Volunteer responsibilities include:

  • Approaching everyone you meet on the street.
  • Identifying yourself as a volunteer doing a study on housing and homelessness.
  • Seeking consent from all potential participants.
  • Asking the screening questions and recording answers.
  • Maintaining confidentiality.
  • Staying with your assigned team.
  • Covering the area only in your designated map zone or facility.
  • Reporting concerns to your team leader and/or headquarters, including instances where participants appear under distress or in harm’s way.
  • Check-in and debrief at Station 20 West (headquarters) before and after your shift

Volunteer Training:

All volunteers are required to complete one 2-hour training session, prior to the PiT Count. The training dates and times are included within the registration form.
